Resumen: It is the feeling of the authors that since problem solving is the essence of engineering, the study of Analytical Mechanics for Engineers provides an ideal framework within which the beginning engineering student is introduced to the engineering viewpoint. It is realized that theory and rigor are indispensable to the proper understanding of any discipline and these are not sacrificed on the altar of practice. On the other hand, theory without application is not sound engineering. Inas- much as Engineering Mechanics is, generally, the first contact that an engineering student has with engineering as a discipline it behooves us to provide more than just the fundamental principles of mechanics. The illustrative problems have been selected so as to impart a sense of engineering realism. Hopefully the assigned problems will deepen this sense.
